About

A small studio with the right brains on every problem.

Shift is a small studio. Led by Ryan Hill, with a vetted bench of 4 senior engineers across different disciplines and backgrounds. One point of contact, the right brains on every problem. Fixed price, you own everything.

01 / Studio

Studio model, not solo freelance.

Shift is structured deliberately: one named lead you talk to, and a vetted bench of senior engineers across backend, infrastructure, AI, and product. The right person — or two people — is on your project, depending on what your project actually needs. No juggling between contractors. No junior team practicing on your build. No 6-week ramp-up.

About the founder

Ryan Hill, studio lead.

Self-taught engineer with a multi-domain background — electrical, controls, robotics, software, and insurance. Most recently a Senior Backend Engineer leading AI tooling adoption at a growth-stage company. Started Shift to bring practical AI leverage to operators in Cincinnati and the founders building from anywhere.

02 / Bench coverage

What the studio actually covers.

The disciplines on the bench, not a list of tools. The interesting problems sit in the seams between them — that’s the point of working with a studio instead of a single freelancer.

03 / Principles

What this studio believes.

Leverage over deliverables.

A slide deck is not a system. We measure ourselves on hours taken back, errors eliminated, and tools your team actually uses — not on document count.

Real over rendered.

Real product screenshots, real code, real diagrams. Working demos every week. We show what we ship, not what we mock up.

Tell you straight.

If your codebase isn’t workable, we’ll say so. If AI isn’t the answer for the problem, we’ll say that too. The retainer most studios push? Most clients don’t need one — that’s the point.
